Children don’t belong in cages. Families belong together. Indefinite detention is not an option. Our voices are being heard but we can’t rest until families are reunited and babies aren’t behind bars.
Parents everywhere are grappling with how to talk about this with their kids—and how, together, we can make a difference in solidarity with immigrant families at our borders.
In the face of horrific detention policies at the US Border, Purpose is proud to have taken part in launching StandForKids.US with Elana Berkowitz, Avani Agarwal of Google, and in solidarity with the National Domestic Workers Alliance and the Families Belong Together coalition. #StandforKids helped children and families to take a stand for families at the border by making their own solidarity lemonade stands to raise money for an amazing group of 14 organizations working at the border.
The #StandforKids campaign was extremely successful, with many children and families taking part across the country.
Stand For Kids was even featured here by Vogue in an article about how to talk to your kids about the crisis at the border.
The photos of children around the country hosting lemonade stands to raise money for families at the border were heartwarming and truly a story of hope in this dark time.
Make a (Lemonade) Stand. Take a Stand. Join the #StandForKids initiative this weekend by making your own solidarity lemonade stand where you raise money for an amazing group of 14 organizations working at the border.
Give away a free cookie or lemonade to your neighbors who:
- Write a postcard or letter to an immigrant kid being detained without their parents at the border. National Domestic Workers Alliance will help deliver them.
- Sign up to participate in an event as part of the June 30th Families Belong Together National Day of Action. (If you can, have a phone, laptop or tablet available with the website pulled up and ready to go so you can sign up your customers right then and there!)
You can collect funds at your lemonade stand and then make an online payment to a coalition of 14 groups protecting immigrant kids being taken from their families.

- Register your stand or find a stand near you. (There are materials you can download and use for your stand.)
- Share #StandForKids and StandforKids.us with all of your friends and across social media.
