Purpose Gets a Taste of Summer at Broadway Bites
julho 28, 2014
Purpose’s foodies headed out of the office last week on a fieldtrip to Greeley Square Park, home of this summer’s Broadway Bites. The pop-up market brings together vendors from all over the city, in a mouthwatering fusion of local and international cuisine. Crowds line up for New York City favorites with a twist, like hot dogs topped with kimchi or tacos crafted by native Brooklynites.
The Purpose crew worked up an appetite on the 12-block trek from the office, but every step was worth it. The summer sunshine had drawn a particularly large crowd, and navigating through food stands meant catching glimpses of one enticing plate after the other. Strangers approached strangers with the same question: “Where’d you get that?”
With so many offerings to choose from, no two team members selected the same meal. Charlotte headed for the edamame noodles, while Christina had her eye on the spring rolls. Kat and Max snapped photos of pizza and pad Thai to upload to Purpose’s Foodstand app. Lindsay had already devoured her arancini (fried, cheese-stuffed rice balls) before I’d even tasted my corn and avocado tacos. I can’t blame her, though.
The verdict on the bites? “It was so delicious!” said Christina, who sampled a meatball slider with sweet chili sauce in addition to veggie and tofu spring rolls, “The slider had just the right amount of heat, coupled with some yummy sweetness, and the spring rolls were texturally balanced with the perfect components of crunchy carrots and smooth alfalfa sprouts.
The best part of Broadway Bites was not a single dish, but the wide variety. Despite the mixed tastes of Purpose folks, we were all able discover something delicious—kind of like how our diverse ideas and backgrounds combine in the office to create awesome work. Lunch tastes 10 times better when enjoyed with friends because everyone can share a bite of everything.
