Purpose Celebrates LGBT Pride Month
juin 12, 2015
On Thursday, June 4th Purpose honored the start of LGBT Pride month by hosting a reception at our NYC office. Purpose staff members, their friends and family, and others from the NYC social good community gathered together to celebrate the overall progress that has been gained by the LGBT rights movement, including and the recent momentum sparked by the marriage equality victory in Ireland, and the upcoming ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that could bring marriage equality to all 50 states.
As an organization focused on building movements, Purpose’s campaigners, strategists, and creatives often look to the LGBT rights movement as an example of how to change perceptions, shift cultural dialogues, and ultimately inspire a large and diverse group of people to take collective action. Therefore, we were proud host this celebration and to show solidarity with those continuing to lead the vital work of the LGBT rights movement.
Below is a video that highlights a piece of Purpose’s work in this space. My Big Gay (Il)legal Wedding is a groundbreaking, flagship ACLU campaign that uses humor to empower same-sex couples from across the country to become powerful spokespeople for marriage equality, reach new audiences and shift perceptions about the issue.
At the same time, Purpose recognizes that there is still much work to be done to protect the rights and improve the lives of LGBT people around the world. To support nonprofits and individual changemakers working within the LGBT rights movement, Purpose is partnering with 501 Tech NYC to host “Winning Campaigns for International LGBT Rights.” The event, which is being held at Purpose on June 17th, will feature Co-Founder and Executive Director of All Out, Andre Banks, who will share stories from the front lines of digital campaigning for International LGBT rights. All Out is mobilizing millions of people to build a world where no person will have to sacrifice their family or freedom, safety or dignity, because of who they are or who they love.
