A Sunday Night Celebration with the Social Good Community

Purpose recently opened its space to the social good community as part of a very busy week surrounding the UN General Assembly. The event, titled Movement-Building for Impact: A Showcase of New Approaches, combined cocktails with a celebration of work by Purpose and its partners. The event closed out an extremely successful day at the People’s Climate March with an appropriate recognition of organizing and mobilization.

With so many people in town for the UN General Assembly, Climate Week, the +Social Good Summit, and the Clinton Global Initiative, the showcase was about bringing together a diverse group of social change leaders. Looking less like an office and more like a downtown gallery, Purpose’s space was transformed to highlight the movement-building work of some of Purpose’s projects, incubations and partners. Each room featured a cutting-edge project and allowed attendees both to learn more about the project and to take action on the issue.

The #WalkTheWalk room included a photo booth, where guests could engage with the #WalkTheWalk campaign surrounding the People’s Climate March. Meanwhile, the Foodstand team designed their showcase to look like an authentic speakeasy, featuring fresh food and signature cocktails. Those who toured the speakeasy could join the innovative Foodstand beta, and connect with Foodstand’s community of food lovers. Additionally, The Syria Campaign room featured photos of the heroic White Helmets rescue group and called on people to attend the Syria panel being held the following week. The B Team, an important Purpose partner, displayed a timeline of their work to create an environment where business is a driving force for social, environmental and economic benefit.  

The showcase provided a launching point for many thought-provoking conversations and connections about impact and mobilization, while celebrating the great work done by all those working to build movements. Check out the event hashtag #SundayatPurpose for some great event pictures, and look out for the next Purpose event!
